SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF 40 CATARACT SURGERIES

On October 21st, the Lions Club of Colombo Leads successfully completed a cataract surgery project for 40 patients at the Lions Eye Hospital in Kadawatha. This initiative, aimed at restoring sight to individuals affected by cataracts, underscores our commitment to community health and wellbeing.

The selection of patients began through a public health camp, where individuals in need were identified and invited to participate in the program. Following the initial selection, the patients were brought to Pannipitiya Nursing Home for their preliminary check-ups. During this visit, comprehensive medical evaluations were conducted to ensure they were fit for surgery. All necessary medical reports were provided free of charge, thanks to the sponsorship and support from our club.

The second stage of the project involved further medical examinations, where patients were required to present their medical reports for final clearance. This meticulous process ensured that each patient was fully prepared for the upcoming surgeries.

On the day of the surgeries, October 21st, transportation was arranged to ensure the patients’ timely arrival at the hospital. A bus departed from Pannipitiya at 5:00 AM, bringing all 40 patients to the Lions Eye Hospital in Kadawatha. The surgeries were successfully completed by the hospital’s skilled surgical team. Following the procedures, the patients were safely transported back to Pannipitiya by 8:00 PM.

Dr. Manel Pasquel provided invaluable support throughout the entire project. She was involved in all the pre-surgery consultations and handled the final consultations one week after the surgeries. Her dedication and expertise, offered free of charge, were crucial to the success of this project. We express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Pasquel for her unwavering commitment.

We also extend our special thanks to Mrs. Yasoda Yasarathna for her unwavering support throughout the project, ensuring smooth operations and providing much-needed assistance at every stage.

This cataract surgery project was a resounding success, significantly improving the quality of life for 40 individuals. It stands as a testament to the power of community service and collaboration.
